E. Esther Bridges Borders
Born May 5, 1913, in Cherokee County, South Carolina, to the union of Joe and Senora Brdiges. She was one of two twin sisters. Sister V. Esther did not survive.
Even as an older child in a big family living and working on the farm, Esther was able to finish rural school which was amojor accomplishment for females during that time.
At the young age of 20, sther married James Borders and started a family. To this union, the following offspring were born:
James Eugene Joseph Junior Triby Esther Rebecca Elizabeth Betty Dean
"Mommy Esther", as she was affectionatelt called, was a strong woman much in the mold of her mother who valued the love of family and relgious worship. She was forced to separate from her husband while children were still young and had to raise them alone. She worked inthe laubdry business in Charlotte, North Carolina, to feed and cloth her family. The loss of her oldest sone to a drowning accident drove her closer to God and her family.
Later in life she moved to New York to live with her youngest son. When she learned that her father was dying of a terminal illness, she returned home to comfort and help care for him. Upon returning, she worked as a prison cook and became a dedicated church meber. She departed this life suddenly in an automobile accident on August 7, 1973, and will be remembered as obe who loved her feloow man and worked to make the lest life possible for her family.
