Bridges Family Reunion

Robert Eugene Bridges

     Growing up in a large famly on a farm and sharing responsibilities with his siblings, Robert's early years of education were attended at Green Bethel in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, Zoar and Borders Schools, both in Shelby, North Carolina.

     Robert entered the United States Marine Crorps at the age of eighteen in 1943. He received a medal for outstanding sharp shooter. He served two yeas and was in the South Pacific during World War II. He received an honorable discharge. After serving his time, he finished his education at Washington School, where he graduated in 1949.

     Robert married Lorean Schenck on September 11, 1956. He is the loving father of four children and four stepchildren:

• Susan

     In August of 1953, Robert was employed with Carolina Freight Trucking Company in Cherryville, North Carolina, where he retired in 1989 fter 36 years of "Outstanding Service."

     Robert was a member of Washington Baptist Church. As of 1996, he had 28 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
